Sourcing, Processing & Storing Native Seeds

  • Newstart Gardens 41 Saxton Road New Plymouth, Taranaki, 4371 New Zealand (map)

How to source, process, and store native seeds for successful germination.

Facilitated by: Merryn, Landbased Training Tutor at Newstart Garden

Koha: Please consider making a kind donation to support their efforts as a community garden that supplies local produce to food banks around New Plymouth.

This is a hands-on workshop where participants where learn about the different methods of propagation that are required to successfully germinate our native tree species in Taranaki. For example, Karaka seedlings are 4 months old.  These were soaked and stratified in the fridge before sowing. Once species have germinated, they will need potting up or transferring to a larger cell/pot for continued growth. Expect to learn, be inspired, and obtain the skills needed to collect, process, and germinate natives in your area.

Feel free to bring seeds to swap. Tue 31st Oct 12.30-1.30 pm
